  • Make sure the selected scope has Rev N/S and E/W turned off. Then click on the moon image.

Why are the scope selections in the Connect menu disabled?

  • If Equinox can not find a valid serial port you can not connect to a telescope, so the scopes are disabled.
  • You need a USB/Serial adaptor connected to your Mac - the Keyspan High Speed is a good choice.
  • Make sure you have your USB/Serial adaptor's driver installed and that it is up-to-date.

My iSight camera does not show up in the Webcam control panel - why?

  • Because the iSight camera is intentionally not listed. You can not use an iSight for astronomical purposes.

FAQ

I am using a webcam for autoguiding with a DSLR but it is not very accurate.

  • Equinox Pro uses your scope's slew commands to autoguide - you will get much better results with a GPUSB.

When I try to connect to my telescope I get a message saying that it can not connect.

  • First you need a USB/Serial adaptor - I strongly recommend the Keyspan High Speed adaptor.
  • You need to install the latest Keyspan driver - it works with Leopard (most do not).
  • You need the scope manufacturer's RS-232 cable - all scopes are different so you need the right one.
  • The RS-232 cable goes from the DB-9 port on the Keyspan to the RS-232 port on the scope.
  • Usually the RS-232 port is on the scope's hand controller, not on the mount itself.
  • Finally you need to configure your scope with the correct protocol in the Scope tab of the Preference panel.
  • If you have done all that and you still can not connect to your scope please contact Microprojects support.

Can I use the Starry Night BlueStar adaptor with Equinox Pro?

  • Yes you can. Download Steve Mattan's BlueStar manual for instructions on how to set it up.

I want to try creating a photo horizon image but I don't have Photoshop.

  • You can try PTGui or Hugin to create the panorama image, then Graphic Convertor or Pixelmator to turn the sky area into a transparent region. Just make sure you end up with a 2048X1024 72ppi PNG file.
